[May 23, 2017] -- I would like to briefly express my appreciation to our clients and their staff for their support over the past seven months. I am pleased to report that I am returning to work full time again. My schedule may still vary for some time to come, but I hope to return to a level of work that many of you have come to appreciate.
The 2016-2017 academic year is quickly closing and the 2017-2018 year about to start. Are you ready yet? Now really is a good time to start planning for 2018-2019. "Wow! That far ahead? Now? I'm too busy!" In higher education we are always too busy. It is a way of life that if we didn't thrive on it, we would go crazy.
So what to do? How not to live our professional lives out of control? Make this year the year that you take control. And how are you going to do that? Plan! Plan, plan, plan. Too often we hear, "I don't have time, we are too far behind to plan ahead!" We fail to see that taking a step back to plan ahead can help us tomorrow and beyond to rein in our professional chaos. When you don't plan, you are not exerting the control that you do have. Our professional lives have patterns - seasons if you will - just like our lives do in general. So what one action can you take today?
Start planning by making a professional calendar and plan the seasons of your next professional year:
